The way of the world is full of brambles,
and human feeling is so often a sigh;
if there's a road to profit and fame,
then with diligent toil pursue your living.
Interpretation
Fame and gain come to you as your lot allows; there's no need to fight others for them on the world's perilous road. To keep your place and pass the days in honest, diligent toil suits best.
